Prohab History
Prohab was founded in 1985 by Daniel J. Hillesland, Ph.D., RKT who initially marketed the business as clinical kinesiology. Dr. Hillesland's plan to develop a private practice of kinesiotherapy was formulated after serving as the Clinical Director for the Kinesiotherapy Clinic at the University of Toledo from 1978 to 1984. Prohab's concentration from the time it opened its doors has been a proactive rehabilitation of the work injured. The two primary components of the program have been therapeutic clinical and aquatic exercise.
In August of 1992, the integration of physical therapy with kinesiotherapy was made as this would produce a better product that could provide proactive functional rehabilitation to both the work injured and non-work injured population. In addition to therapeutic aquatic and clinical exercise, Prohab offers a variety of modalities that include electrical stimulation, ultrasound, whirlpool, iontophoresis, paraffin, traction (pelvic and cervical), hot packs and cold packs. Prohab also provides functional capacity testing for the industrial patient.
Prohab has also placed emphasis on educating our patients. Back education, lifting mechanics and job related body mechanics are reviewed with all patients. Every patient is given instruction in a home exercise program prior to being discharged from physical therapy. We recommend patients remain compliant with their programs to prevent future injuries.
Although Prohab offers a large scope of treatment options, the emphasis remains on proactive, progressive therapeutic exercise with each program individualized for each patient. Prohab has a reputation of achieving successful outcomes by providing high quality, function based, time oriented physical therapy.
We have a small staff consisting of licensed physical therapists, licensed physical therapist assistants, and licensed athletic trainer. All of our staff members are college educated in their area of expertise. Communication is excellent between all staff members as well as with referring physicians.
